About Starlight Children Choir

 

The Starlight Children's Choir provides a wonderful opportunity for young singers ages 5 and up to explore the joy of choral music. Through weekly rehearsals, children develop vocal technique, music reading skills, and an appreciation for various styles from classical to contemporary.​

 

Our choir class is designed to nurture the joy of singing while imparting invaluable skills and knowledge. Whether you're a budding musician or an experienced vocalist, our program offers a supportive and enriching environment for your musical growth.

Faculty

 

Vivian Gao

Music Education, MA

Ms. Gao is an enthusiastic music teacher with a wealth of experience teaching children of all ages. Holding a master's degree in Music Education from California Baptist University and a background in performing arts, she is devoted to fostering young talent and cultivating their passion for choral music. During her academic years, Ms. Gao underwent rigorous vocal performance training spanning six years, ultimately leading to her role as one of the lead vocalists in her college choir.

Previously, she taught at public schools in Beijing and led her students to participate in the Beijing middle school and elementary school choral competitions, where they earned first and third prizes.

Currently, Ms. Gao holds the positions of music and drama teacher, choir conductor, as well as a mentor teacher for the specialties and cross campus music subject advisor at a top-rated private school in Silicon Valley. Her expertise allows her to guide young singers across various music genres, including classical, folk songs, pop, rock and roll, and Broadway hits. With her proficiency in vocal technique, students of all skill levels and ages have been able to shine on stage under her tutelage.

Wenjia Zhai

Ms. Wenjia is an accomplished music educator with a Master's degree in K-12 music education from New York University, specializing in piano and vocal instruction. With a decade of experience in teaching across both private and public school settings, she brings a wealth of expertise to her role. Currently, Ms. Wenjia serves as a distinguished faculty member at a popular private elementary school in the Bay Area.

In her current position, Ms. Wenjia leads a vibrant program that annually produces over 30 musical theater shows, where she imparts instruction in vocal techniques, acting, and choreography. Beyond her teaching duties, she serves as the music curriculum lead across more than 30 campuses, providing support and mentorship to fellow music educators.

Prior to her current role, Ms. Wenjia held esteemed positions including Women's Choir Director at Benedictine Academy in Newark, NJ, Assistant Choir Director at the renowned New York Bronx High School of Science, and Choir Director at Edith Landel Elementary School.

Ms. Wenjia's passion for fostering musical talent extends beyond the classroom. As one of the founders of the Starlight Children's Choir, she has been instrumental in establishing a thriving community of young singers. Leveraging her extensive experience and dedication, she has contributed to the strong growth and success of the Starlight group, positioning it as a prominent entity in the realm of choral music.
